He’s still powerful - i think.. He still has lots of money - can’t prove it but that’s true.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;p&gt;Who’s next? GMA? plunder and cheating in the elections.. That I’m hoping to see. I strongly believe that she cheated. I time, she’ll serve her sentence. Jinggoy Estrada and lawyer Edward Serapio.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada was also acquitted of perjury for allegedly falsely declaring his assets. Hours after his conviction, a glum Joseph Estrada vowed to ``fight to the end'' what he decried as a ``political ruling,'' and thumbed down any offer of pardon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;His lawyers said they would challenge the decision by filing a motion for reconsideration or an appeal with the Supreme Court.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada emerged red-faced but calm from the packed courtroom at the Sandiganbayan after the verdict was read at past 9 a.m. He stayed for more than two hours to confer with his team of lawyers and comfort his family.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He was then airlifted to his resthouse in Tanay, Rizal where he remains under house arrest.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;With credit for time served in detention, it was unclear when he might be eligible for parole, or whether he will spend time in prison, be allowed to continue living under house arrest in his own villa or even be granted a pardon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada’s wife Loi, sons JV and Jinggoy, and daughter Jackie, were in tears after the verdict was handed down.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The family and some former Cabinet members occupied a small room on the sixth floor of the Sandiganbayan to await his fate.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada was escorted upstairs by a phalanx of security men and ended up comforting his family, allies and supporters.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"When they went up to the sixth floor, everybody in the family cried,'' said family lawyer Rufus Rodriguez.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There were only stares and muffled cries heard from them when Estrada entered the room. He just looked at them with a sad smile.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim who broke the silence, telling his friend that his last hope was with the Supreme Court.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada saw his daughter Jackie Ejercito-Lopez crying and told her , “It's not the end of the world,” according to Rod Reyes.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“We'll fight to the end.”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada then commented that his suspicions have been confirmed that the Sandiganbayan special division was created to convict him.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“But it doesn’t matter because the people are on our side,” he said, kissing his sobbing daughter, Jackie.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“In his heart of hearts, it was a case of guilt not proven,” said Rene Saguisag, one of Estrada’s attorneys.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada’s friends and family issued a statement calling the case a political vendetta by Arroyo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The verdict ending the six-year trial was televised live but was nearly an anticlimax.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Fewer than expected pro-Erap supporters turned out on the streets. Government fears that a conviction would spark Estrada’s poor supporters to protest violently failed to materialize.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada, a former movie idol, often called his presidency the “last and best performance of my life.” He has retained some of his popularity while trying to fend off accusations that he illegally amassed about P4 billion in bribes and proceeds from illegal gambling and falsely declared his assets.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The trial ran from October 2001 to June 15, with prosecutors claiming he hid assets and bought expensive mansions and vacation houses for his mistresses.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada has denied the charges and accused Arroyo of masterminding his removal in a conspiracy with leaders of the Catholic Church and senior military officers.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada said he feels he has been acquitted by the populace with the victories of candidates he backed in midterm elections earlier this year.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Estrada said he wasn't surprised by his conviction, but rued that the ruling was politically motivated&lt;br /&gt;He said he believed that the Sandiganbayan created the special court specifically to convict him.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"From the very start, there was already doubt in creating this special court," he told reporters, while peeking from behind a door at the holding center.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"The direct and indirect pressures that have been made on this special court must have been too much too bear," the former leader added in his prepared statement.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It was the latest step in the plunge from the pinnacle of power for Estrada, a popular action film star who scored the Philippines’ biggest-ever election victory in 1998.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He even inaugurated the Sandiganbayan, the anti-graft court that convicted him.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“This is the only forum where I could tell the Filipino people my innocence,” said a disappointed Estrada. He was still wearing a wristband with the presidential seal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;“That’s why I took a gamble. I thought the rule of law will prevail over here. This is really a kangaroo court. Maraming salamat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Ang Makata sa Panahon ng Krisis -Alexander Martin Remollino&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Kung nais nating makita ang pagkakaugnay ng tao't ng lipunan, wala yatang pinakamainam na pook para rito kundi ang mga istasyon ng Metro Rail Transit o MRT. Sa himpilang EDSA-Ayala, minsa'y patakbo sana akong aakyat (sapagkat hindi ako nakapag-ehersisyo sa bahay nang umagang iyon at gusto kong mag-ehersisyo), ngunit hindi ko kaagad natupad ang ibig kong gawin sapagkat mahaba ang pila paakyat at kaybagal pa ng usad, at sa dakong kaliwa nama'y may mahabang hanay rin ng mga bumababa. Nang maubos ang mga taong bumababa ay gumawi ako sa kaliwa at patakbong inakyat ang natitirang mga baitang, at nakita ko ang salarin sa pagkakaroon ng mahabang pilang kaybagal gumalaw: isang saksakan ng kupad maglakad na akala yata'y kanya ang buong MRT at ibig itong gawing isang Luneta. Minsan din, sa himpilang EDSA-Buendia, dumating ang tren nang may sapat na luwag sa loob, at kakaunti lang ang mga kasabay kong nag-aabang kaya't tiyak na lahat kami'y kakasya sana. Ngunit kakaunti sa amin ang nakasakay at ako ma'y muntik nang hindi makapasok, at muntik pa ngang maipit ng pinto. Ang may kagagawan? Magkaparehang binatilyo't dalagita sa unahan ng mga pumasok, na ginawang walk in the park ang kanilang paglulan sa tren habang naghihimasan pa, na lalong nagpabagal sa kanilang paglakad. Aywan ko ba kung bakit hindi na lamang nagmotel ang mga tinamaan ng magaling na ungas. Di gaano pa kaya ang epekto sa lipunan ng isang makata, na bukod sa tumatangan ng isang lubhang makapangyarihang sandatang pampanitikan ay lagi't lagi pang nasa publiko? Sa mga pananalita ng mga makatang Emmanuel Dumlao at Gelacio Guillermo sa isang porum ng Kilometer 64 sa Unibersidad ng Pilipinas (UP) noong Nobyembre 18 ay natalakay nang husto ang usaping ito. Kapwa sila nakapagpakitang may papel at lalaging may papel ang makata sa lipunang kanyang ginagalawan dahil sa kapangyarihan ng kanyang sandatang pampanitikan at pampublikong katangian ng kanyang buhay. Ang GAT Sa pananalita ni Dumlao, malaking bahagi ang inilaan sa isang samahan ng mga makata na nagmarka sa kasaysayan hindi lamang ng panitikan kundi maging ng pulitika sa Pilipinas – ang Galian sa Arte at Tula o GAT. Inilahad niya ang mga tampok na ginawa ng GAT: paglalabas ng mga antolohiyang naging bahagi ng diskursong-madla; di-mabilang na poetry reading sa mga komunidad ng maralitang-lunsod, baybay-dagat, kabukiran, paaralan, piketlayn at iba pang lugar kung saan naroon ang nakararaming mamamayan. Ito ang pagsasabuhay ng GAT sa kredo nitong "Ibalik ang panulaan sa puso at tangkilik ng sambayanan," na ang sumulat ay walang iba kundi si Virgilio Almario, kilala rin bilang Rio Alma, isa sa mga tagapagtatag ng naturang samahan. Dinala ng GAT ang mithiin ng sambayanan na mabuhay sa isang tunay na malaya at demokratikong lipunan, at ito'y sinalamin ng mga tulang inilabas ng naturang samahan sa halos dalawampung taon ng pag-iral nito. Isinilang ang GAT sa panahon ng diktadura, bilang isang pagtugon sa diktadura. Isa ito sa iilang makabayang organisasyong sa panahon mismo ng Batas Militar ay natatag nang ligal, at nanatiling ligal sa mga taong ipinagbabawal ang lahat ng organisasyong natukoy ng pamahalaan bilang militante. Nagawa ito ng GAT sa pamamagitan ng pagpapanday ng isang panulaang malaalegoriko ang mga imahe, at sa ganito'y nakalusot sa mga sensor ng gobyerno ngunit naunawaan ng madla. Iniwasan nito ang mga salitang karaniwan nang iugnay ng pamahalaan sa rebelyon, at naging malikhain ito sa paggamit ng mga talinhagang bagama't hindi halatang palaban ay may sariling mabisang paraan ng pananawagan ng pagbabalikwas, na nakilala ng madla sapagkat hinugot mula sa mismo nilang mga buhay. Lumahok ang GAT sa pakikibaka sa diktadurang Estados Unidos-Marcos, at nagluwal ito ng maraming tulang naging mga klasikong paulit-ulit na binigkas sa mga kilos-protesta, halimbawa'y ang mga sumikat na anti-pasistang tula nina Jesus Manuel Santiago at Romulo Sandoval. Ang ganitong panghahawak sa paninindigan ng GAT ang dahilan kung kaya kahit na pito sa lalong tinitingalang mga kasapi nito – na ang isa'y magiging National Artist pa sa kalaunan – ang sumuporta sa kandidatura nina Ferdinand Marcos at Arturo Tolentino sa snap election ng 1986 ay hindi naapektuhan nang malaki ang kabuuang kredibilidad nito. Ang maalingasngas na pag-eendorso Nabanggit ni Dumlao ang mga pangalan ng pitong kasapi ng GAT na tumangkilik sa kandidaturang Marcos-Tolentino noong 1986. Makabubuting banggitin muli sila rito, sa ikababatid ng lahat at upang huwag nating malimot: Virgilio Almario, S.V. Epistola, Lamberto Antonio, Teo Antonio, Mike Bigornia, Manuel Baldemor, at Ruth Elynia Mabanglo. Buhay pa silang lahat, liban kina Bigornia at Epistola. Marami sa mga ito ang magpahanggang ngayo'y hindi inihihingi ng kapatawaran ng bansa ang kanilang ginawa – kabilang na si Almario, National Artist for Literature ng 2003. Sa katunayan, sa isang interbiyu sa kanya ng isang estudyanteng gradwado sa UP noon ding 2003, sinabi ni Almario na ang Kaliwa ang nagpabomba sa Plaza Miranda noong 1971, at ito raw ay ginawa upang guluhin ang gobyerno ni Marcos. Yaong mga may malawak na pagbabasa sa kasaysayan at lalo na'y yaong mga may malay na nang taong iyon ay tiyak na makaaalaalang ito rin ang dahilang ginamit ni Marcos upang magdeklara ng batas militar. At habang umiiral ang batas militar ay kayraming manunulat ang pinarusahan dahil sa kanilang pagbibilad ng kalagayan ng bansa: ipinapatay ang mga Lorena Barros, Eman Lacaba, Antonio Tagamolila, Liliosa Hilao at Valerio Nofuente, habang ang isang Henry Romero'y nawala at hindi pa natatagpuan magpahanggang sa mga araw na ito; samantalang ipinabilanggo naman sina Beinvenido Lumbera, Satur Ocampo, Luis Teodoro, Ninotchka Rosca, Bonifacio Ilagan, Pete Lacaba, Levy Balgos de la Cruz, at Dolores Feria, at marami sa knaila ang dumanas ng iba't ibang anyo ng pagpapahirap sa bilangguan, kabilang ang pangunguryente sa bayag at utong at puki, pag-uumpog sa kanila sa dingding, pagpapahiga sa kanila nang hubo't hubad sa bloke-blokeng yelo, at maging panggagahasa sa mga babae. Ang sinabing ito ni Almario ay hindi pa niya binabawi magpahanggang ngayon, bagama't hindi pa rin maipaliwanag ng mismong kampo ng mga Marcos kung bakit ang binomba sa Plaza Miranda ay ang pulong ng Liberal Party, na lumalaban din sa gobyerno noong 1971 at samakatwid ay maituturing noong taktikal na alyado ng Kaliwa. Batay sa kasaysayan, ang ganito'y istilo ng ilang panatikong maka-Kanang paksiyon sa militar, ngunit hindi ng Kaliwa. Sinasabi ni Almario na tama ang pagkakadeklara ni Marcos ng batas militar, na nandahas sa napakaraming Pilipino? Iwan na natin sa kanya ang pagpapaliwanag dito, pati na sa inamin niya mismong pagiging propagandista ng kampo ni Marcos bago pa man ang snap election ng 1986 at habang siya'y kasapi pa ng GAT, na nagpatalsik sa kanya noong 1986. Siya na rin ang bahalang magpaliwanag kung may kaugnayan din ba ang lahat nito sa mahabang panahon niyang palinlang na paglalayo sa mga baguhang manunulat sa landas ng makabayan at makalipunang pakikisangkot – sa isang bansa kung saan kailangang-kailangan ang mga manunulat na magpapatuloy sa tradisyon ng mga Francisco Balagtas, Jose Rizal, Crisanto Evangelista, Jose Corazon de Jesus, Salvador Lopez, Manuel Agruilla, Carlos Bulosan, Amado Hernandez, at iba pang katulad. Mga aral ng GAT sa ating panahon Naipakita ni Dumlao na ang GAT ay naging isang kapahayagan ng pagkakaisa ng mga makatang nagpasyang makipagkaisa sa kanilang mga mambabasa sa pagtatatag ng isang matwid na lipunan. Tinangkilik sila ng madlang malawak dahil dito at ang kanilang mga akda'y nag-ambag nang di-biro sa pagbibigay ng direksiyon sa pakikitalad ng sambayanan. Kung ano ang mga aral na mahahalaw ng kasalukuyang mga makatang nakikisangkot, lalo sa panahong itong ang bansa'y nasa krisis na tulad sa panahon ng diktadurang Estados Unidos-Marcos, ay naroon sa pagkakalahad ni Dumlao sa mismong kasaysayan ng GAT at, gayundin, ng kanyang sariling karanasan bilang isang makata. Lampasan ang sarili, magsulat alang-alang sa sambayanan, ngunit huwag magpakulong sa mga pormulang kaylimit kabuliran maging ng mga dapat ay higit na malikhain sapagkat naghahangad na magwasak. Mahalagang aral ito na maiging matutunan ng mga makatang kalahok sa tuluy-tuloy na proseso ng paglutas sa kasalukuyang krisis ng bansa – isang krisis na ibinunsod ng isang ilehitimo't tiwaling pamunuang ang mga patakara'y laban sa kapakanan ng bansa't ng nakararaming mamamayan, at mapanlabag sa karapatang pantao. Mapakikinabangan ang mga aral mula sa karanasan ng GAT sa dalawang tipo ng matulaing pagtugon sa kasalukuyang krisis na binanggit ni Guillermo, na bilang paggagad sa nauuso ngayong pagbibigay ng akronimo, na ang pinakatanyag ay ang CPR na tumutukoy sa calibrated preemptive response na patakaran ng rehimeng Macapagal-Arroyo, ay tinawag niyang tactical poetic response (TPR) at strategic poetic response (SPR). Ang TPR, sang-ayon kay Guillermo, ay ang "pagsagot sa nagaganap na maiinit na usapin na kinakaharap ng mamamayan," habang ang SPR nama'y "panulaang tumutugon sa matagalang pangangailangan ng mga organisadong (puwersa) at masa sa edukasyon at muling paghuhubog sa sarili." Mahalaga ang pagsipi ni Guillermo sa winika ng rebolusyonaryong manunulat na si Eduardo Galeano ng Amerika Latina, dahil aral ito sa lahat ng makata at maging sa lahat ng iba pang manunulat, hindi lamang sa panahon ng diktadurang Estados Unidos-Marcos kundi sa panahon man ng paghahari ng ilehitimo, makadayuhan at makamayaman, at pasistang rehimeng Macapagal-Arroyo na binasbasan ng Estados Unidos. Ano ang sinabi ni Galeano? "Ang sabihing mababago ang realidad sa pamamagitan lamang ng panitikan ay isang kabaliwan o paghahambog," aniya. "Sa palagay ko, isa ring kalokohan na itatwang nakakatulong ito sa pagbabago." Sinasabi ni Galeano na ang panitikan ay magiging kagaya lamang ng isang baril na walang bala kung wala itong gagawin liban sa pagbibili ng mga pinabanguhang kahangalan, dili kaya'y ng mga pangarap na hindi kailanman matutupad, ngunit nagmamarka sa kasaysayan kapag nakapaghikayat sa madla na taluntunin ang landas ng kabayanihan. Dalawang landas ng mga makata Sa panahon ng kasalukuyang krisis, mainam na balikan ang isang nagdaang panahon din ng krisis upang matimbang nang maigi ang mga maaaring pagpilian ng makata sa parehong panahon. Noon man at ngayon, dalawang landas ang maaaring tahakin ng makata. Sa isang banda'y maaari siyang maging isang mambebersong tagahabol ng tseke mula sa umaandar na kotse ng hari-harian, isang upahang tagapag-aliw sa korte ng mga dugong-bughaw na habang walang makain ang mga mamamaya'y pakutya silang sinasabihang kumain ng mamon. Maaari rin naman siyang maging bilanggo ng sariling toreng garing, diumano'y tiwalag sa daigdig, na pana-panaho'y naghahagis ng mga "pumpon ng mga salita," sa wika ni Jesus Manuel Santiago, sa bintana upang masambot ng madla. Mukhang magkaiba, ngunit sa totoo'y iisa lamang ang mga landas na ito. Sa kabilang banda nama'y maaari silang maging "troubadours for troubled times," sa wika nga ni Eric Caruncho, maging kapwa mandirigma ng lahat ng nagbabalikwas laban sa kaapihan. Ngunit sa introduksyon ng chapbook, naging malinaw si Alexander Martin Remollino ng KM64: “(ito’y)…mga tula ng pakikibaka para sa bayan…mga tula ng pagtalunton sa salimuot ng buhay.”&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="bodytext"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:85%;color:#000000;"&gt;Paano ang pagtalunton sa pagtula para sa bayan? Sa unang bungad pa lamang, nagpapaumanhin na ang “Naligaw sa Pagtingin” ni Mary Jane Alejo ( “sadyang di pantay ating mga paa/ at kaya mo pang lakbayin ang ilang libong milya…/ may kalituhan man sa pagitan ng damdamin at tunguhin -- / natuto na akong hindi maligaw sa pagtingin.”)&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="bodytext"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:85%;color:#000000;"&gt;Magtatanim ng pangamba sa mambabasa kung ituturing na “manifesto” ng grupo ang tulang “kip tiket por inspeksyon” ni Roy Monsobre: (kahit ano pwede/ kahit sino, anumang uri,/ kahit anong lengguwahe,/ kahit anong klase at istilo./ animnapu’t apat na kilometro…/). At sa chapbook, bagamat marami ang mga tulang “makabayan,” ito’y hindi nakaligtas sa mga tula ng tulirong pag-ibig, mala-ars poetica (“Ang makata’y magiging abo rin,/ ngunit hindi ang kanyang/ sipol at halina.”), ng rebeldeng psychedelia ( “toastedmarshamallow sa planet garapata”), at ng mala-Jose Garcia Villa na pagbibida (“Ang kinahinatnan ni Juan Tamad Habang Naghihintay Mabagsakan ng Bayabas sa Ilalim ng Puno ng Mansanas”).&lt;br /&gt;Sa pagpasada sa chapbook ng KM64, matingkad ang dalawang suliranin ng sinumang nagnanais na tumula para sa bayan. Ang una ay sino ang bayan, at para kanino ang tula? Ikalawa’y paano? Paano maglilingkod sa bayan ang makata?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="bodytext"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:85%;color:#000000;"&gt;Ipinamamalas ng ilang tula ang karanasang aktibista sa lungsod. Samantala, may malalim na lungkot at pananalig sa “Walang Gabi” ni Umil. Sa tula, ang panunupil ay pambihirang itinutuon hindi sa mga karaniwang aparato ng estado o makapangyarihan. Ang nananaig ay ang personal na kaalaman, pananaliksik o paniniwala upang makarating sa “himlayang walang gabi.” Kung sa husay lamang ng imahe ay naiiba ito sa iba pang mga tula ng premyadong si Umil. Ngunit ano naman ang nais iparating? &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="bodytext"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:85%;color:#000000;"&gt;Mahusay ang paglalarawan at komentaryo ng prosang tula ng “Seryeng-Hotel” ni Kapi Capistrano (“Banyo Boy,” “Ang Restawrang Itim” at “Eden”), ngunit bakit nga ba ang kanlungan ng mayayaman ang sinisilip at naging paksa? Ang “Mucha’s Grasa” ay nagtatangka sa paglalantad ng kalagayan ng maralita, ngunit sa kanino nga bang punto de bista at lengguwahe?: (“madalas kasi ‘on the road ako’/ kaya eto ‘diet’…/ ako’y isang pulubi/) &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="bodytext"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:85%;color:#000000;"&gt;Tila nahuhumaling sa imahe ng kabaliwan si Remollino sa “Ang Lalong Baliw,” “Baka Sakaling Tubuan ng Katinuan” at “Emperador Nero, AD 2004.” Sa huli, waring hindi nagtitiwala ang makata na mauunawaan ng mambabasa ang alusyon kay Nero, kaya’t may talababa na mas mahaba pa kaysa sa mismong tula!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="bodytext"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:85%;color:#000000;"&gt;Naghahamon naman ang tulang walang pamagat ni Usman Abdurajak Sali: “sa mga bulaang pantas ng panitikan…/ nakangisi silang nakaupo sa matatayog na toreng-garing./ sila ang nagtatakda kung anong estilo ang makasining…/ ay! magiging abo-alikabok ang makukulay nilang balahibo!/ ang maniningil sa kanila’y apoy ng galit ng taas-kamao!”&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p class="bodytext"&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:85%;color:#000000;"&gt;Ito ang pagtatangka at simulain ng KM64 na kayang marating sa patuloy na pagsisikap ng grupo. Para sa maraming kabataang manunulat, matagal nang hinihintay ang isang organisasyon na may kababaang-loob (tulad ng “maamong baka” ni LuHsun) upang lumikha, magsuri, magpunahan at maglagom. Maaari itong simulan sa tapat na pagsusuri sa sariling pinagmulan at paninindigan, at muling-paghuhubog ng isang makauring pananaw na tiyak na kumikiling -- hindi sa peti-burgis -- kundi para sa masang anakpawis. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"&gt;&lt;span style="color:#000000;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:85%;"&gt;&lt;span class="bodytext"&gt;Marahil ay hindi naman labis kung ating aasahan sa KM64 ang ibayong pagpupursige, at sa malao’y ang pagtahak sa rebolusyonaryong tunguhin na ibinandila ng KM noong 1964 o Panitikan para sa Kaunlaran ng Sambayanan o PAKSA noong 1971. Yuson &lt;br /&gt;The Philippine STAR 06/19/2006&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In the haze of another dazzling poetry night at Mag:Net Katips, where readings and performance art have been rife for the month, a young fellow introduced himself as a former student of mine in Ateneo, and pressed what seemed like a pamphlet into my hand. He muttered something about it being a desktop-published broadside, and also about a commensurate donation of P200 for the copy. If I added a hundred, why, its double edition would find itself in my hands soon enough, plus a CD, was it, or a ticket to a music gig? Can't remember. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dazed while seated on the deck overlooking the night traffic on Katipunan Avenue, very pleased with my glass of Tormore Speyside single-malt whisky and a hotplate of spicy sisig, I parted with my money, even taking out that futures option. It wasn't till the following noon that I realized that the transaction had helped a cause: Freedom for the poet and political detainee Axel Pinpin! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Together with four companions, Pinpin, a fellow at the 1999 UP Writers Workshop, had been "arrested by Navy and police elements in Tagaytay City on April 28 while on their way to Manila to attend the Labor Day rally." The so-called "Tagaytay 5" are still detained in Camp Vicente Lim in Canlubang, Laguna, facing rebellion charges. What a country. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This information is found on the last page of the stapled, 32-page poetry pamphlet jointly produced by Kilometer 64, Southern Tagalog Exposure and Artists for the Removal of Gloria (ARREST GLORIA!).&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Come to think of it, that night in Mag:Net, my purpose was to check out our world-beater of a jazz vocalist, Mon David, who was fresh from his London triumph. But the lush life and slush nights have a way of turning improvisational, just like Mon's fevered scat renditions. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Enjoying a turn-away crowd, the earlier events featured the video-covered culmination of an in situ painting session over a couple of weeks and involving young artists, as well as, upstairs at the bar area, a protest poetry reading for Axel Pinpin and the rest of the Tagaytay 5. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On the cover of the booklet entitled Tugma Sa Laya is Pinpin's latest poem in Filipino, written on May 19 this year, obviously while in detention at Camp Vicente Lim. Here's the complete poem titled "Order ni Ser": &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Bawal ang mag-usap/ sabi ni ser/ yan ang order// sa likod ang posas/ sabi sa taas/ yan ang atas// piringan at igapos/ sabi ni boss/ yan ang utos// bawal ang cellphone/ bawal ang bisita/ bawal ang ballpen, bawal ang papel!/ ilayo ang radyo, walang peryodiko!/ sabi ni ser,/ yan ang order!// hari-hati sa yosi sabi ni ser yan ang order/ walang titingin/ walang tatayo/ yuko! sabi ni ser, yan ang order!// walang gagalaw!/ walang hihinga!// teka! teka!/ kaninong order?/ kay ser!" &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;("Order from Sir": "no talking/ said sir/ that's the order// handcuff from behind/ came from high/ that's the edict./ blindfold and tie up/ said the boss/ that's the order// no cellphone/ no visitor/ no ballpen, no paper!/ take away the radio, no newspaper!/ said the boss, that's the order!// take turns with a cigarette said sir that's the order/ no looking up/ no getting up/ bow low! said sir, that's the order!// no one moves!/ no one breathes!// wait! wait!/ by whose order?/ from sir!") &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, that's a quick and free translation, from someone who easily recalls the cell-bound Rizal placing a long farewell in verse inside a gas lamp, or Emman Lacaba penning his poems while on the run in the wilds, in those heady remontado days in the mid-1970s, before his execution. It's the least this occasionally alleged apolitical poet can do. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;But here's plugging the booklet some more. It has 10 other poems by Axel Pinpin, dating from a full decade ago. His titles give an idea of his leanings, or concerns: "Sampaguita Pictures Presents…" ("…Tapos na ang ligawan ng paru-paro/ at nektar ng gumamela nitong kasuyo;/ ang habulan sa paligid ng malalabay na mangga;/ ang pagsungkit sa bituin// o ang paggapi sa dilim.//…" – sorry, no translation for now); "Sino Si Santa Claus?"; "Diyos"; "Balitang Gasgas"; "Ekta-Ektarya" ("ektaryang damuhang laruan ng mayayaman/ walang ibang silbi, kahit pastulan man lang/ milyung galong tubig ang dito'y sinasayang…"); "Ako Ang Digmaan"; "Byuti Kontes"; "Sa Monumento Na Lamang Ba?"; "Paka-ingat Ka, Indang Ko"; and "Ta-Ka-Tak (talambuhay ng isang manunulat)." &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, at the risk of romanticizing the plight of the young Axel, whom we're not exactly comparing to Don Pepe on the eve of martyrdom, as yet, or to the Eliotesque Emman or the pseudonymous Jason Montana of the 1980s, it's only right and proper to disseminate this literature and information, inclusive of the notion that the military's sense of petty retribution, let alone severe sanction, certainly appears to be on the misguided side of poetic justice. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"We in the Artists for the Removal of Gloria (ARREST GLORIA!)," says the statement issued in the booklet, "join the growing call for the release of poet Axel Pinpin and his companions Riel Custodio, Aristedes Sarmiento, Enrico Ybañez, and Michael Masayes. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"… Many of us in this alliance have worked with Pinpin… and can say with certainty that he is not a 'communist rebel,' contrary to what the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) would have us believe. Aside from being a poet, he is a consultant of the Katipunan ng mga Magsasaka sa Kabite (Kamagsasaka Ka), a perfectly legal organization as attested to by no less than Cavite Rep. Jesus Crispin Remulla. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Custodio, like Pinpin, is a consultant of Kamagsasaka Ka; while Sarmiento is a freelance researcher, and Ybañez and Masayes are ordinary residents of Tagaytay City. They are noted in Cavite for their active involvement in campaigns against imperialist globalization and for genuine agrarian reform." &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Etc. Whatever the veracity of these claims (we tend to believe them) and however some of us may question the conjugal validity of a term like "imperialist globalization," there's no gainsaying that the military would do well to release the Tagaytay 5, who were apprehended without any weapons in their possession, anyway, save for ideals and ideas perchance for more poetry of protest. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We won't even invoke the frequent quote from W.S. Auden, that "poetry makes nothing happen; it survives…" In this case, that Axel Pinpin, like his precursor Tomas, has caused dynamic pioneering efforts in publication, and drawn like-minded poets to gather around him with their own verses (14 poems by 9 members of the Kilometer 64 group), should be stronger cause for worry on the part of repressive authority. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;We should also hope that the unwarranted detention isn't being prolonged for typically ineffectual "chilling effect," or only because Cavite Governor "Boying" Remulla is an oppositionist.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Poets and activists, even militants, shouldn't be turned into pawns in any struggle. But then again, if they are, insidiously, it can only result in more ammunition against the abuses of authority.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Poetry can be insidious that way, too. Extend Axel's detention and you give him stronger voice. Now, that may be said to offer a dilemma for any poetry lover. Should we join in asking for his immediate release, or rejoice in his situation, one that could further strengthen him as a poet? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Easy choice. Freedom comes first. Do you think the collective &lt;br /&gt;consciousness of humanity is more important than the establishment of &lt;br /&gt;a single identity within the person?  If you had one place to dance &lt;br /&gt;in the world, and to see the moon die, where would you be? &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I can't think right now, head clouded, facts, data, inserted &lt;br /&gt;mechanic structures need to be placed to function in here---this &lt;br /&gt;bloated room. &lt;br /&gt;Call me pessimistic but I would never believe the whole of humanity &lt;br /&gt;could be anything more than compromised/averaged as it is.  Majority &lt;br /&gt;opinion needs a quick emotional flame to unite.  Otherwise society is &lt;br /&gt;consumed, self-absorbed, oblivious: cars are shields and windows are &lt;br /&gt;tinted. No one see on the inside and they like it that way.  Must we &lt;br /&gt;always protect the children from their own play things?  I know why, &lt;br /&gt;yet it is so far away from me.  I am so removed, and I have a corner &lt;br /&gt;in my room where I like to sleep.  I like to dream of skin and &lt;br /&gt;wrinkled blue eyes that are deep like crushed velvet and walking &lt;br /&gt;without being able to see what I'm walking on, sort of fading in &amp; &lt;br /&gt;out, twinkling if you will.  Fly or fall, gills or wings, to obtain &lt;br /&gt;always needs the help of mechanical things.  This cycle of life is &lt;br /&gt;strange.  I have found it is hypocrisy, a contradiction.  I am &lt;br /&gt;beautiful and ugly.  My skin is pale and my eyes brown and my hair is &lt;br /&gt;black and my blood is red, pigments just as anyone else's. &lt;br /&gt;My mind runs circles around itself.  The moon is a satellite to the &lt;br /&gt;earth made of stones and concrete materials, bonded atoms, probably a &lt;br /&gt;lot of carbon.  Electrons satellite the nucleus in atoms.  Earth is a &lt;br /&gt;nucleus of organic matter and must there be more than these facts? Is &lt;br /&gt;there?  Are we not insignificant? should I be more than this flesh, &lt;br /&gt;these flaking skin cells, and I like the mud myself.  I like the &lt;br /&gt;nothingness sometimes, the fact that this is pure---these facts---we &lt;br /&gt;are made of these.  Yet, dreams infest me. I still wonder is it an &lt;br /&gt;air of inserted reality.  Must I be more? I am what I am.  I am soft &lt;br /&gt;flesh.  My bones break.  I like my frailty; it gives me strength, &lt;br /&gt;mortality, humility.  I like my infinite universe; it gives me &lt;br /&gt;space.  I am alone truly, but I still like my dreams, my subconscious &lt;br /&gt;mind, my humanity.  I like beauty even though it is subjective; it is &lt;br /&gt;not there.  I like to feel even when I know I should think. &lt;br /&gt;I know this society I resent.  I am a part of them;  I am a part of &lt;br /&gt;you, of everyone.  I hate it and I love it and I keep coming to the &lt;br /&gt;idea: as far as thought process and patterns go that no one needs to &lt;br /&gt;do anything.  The human race does not need to think as one or feel or &lt;br /&gt;care even.  When I was especially euphoric and high, I spoke of an &lt;br /&gt;idea of a collective human decay, that oblivion will strike because &lt;br /&gt;we are what we think collectively.  Determinism is a force that is &lt;br /&gt;impossible to defeat.  It has us by the guts, and it likes to &lt;br /&gt;squeeze.  Progression is a hope but like any hope it is only based on &lt;br /&gt;values to the individual.  Nature is instinctive and oblivious.  A &lt;br /&gt;deer will follow its brethren even as just a moment before it got &lt;br /&gt;splattered all over cold, hard reality: the cement of destruction and &lt;br /&gt;determinism.  I feel sometimes like a child in thinking, in the way &lt;br /&gt;that I like to be defiant and say I will not do such a thing.  Humans &lt;br /&gt;learn from their mistakes, from history ... right?  I wish I could &lt;br /&gt;remember with such clarity.  Mass unity requires generalization, &lt;br /&gt;generalization requires a little smudging of the facts, a little &lt;br /&gt;stretching to fit the diversity of social, parental, historical &lt;br /&gt;determinism, etc.  Even if we started from the same point, we know &lt;br /&gt;each will go off having their own whimsical desires of what has &lt;br /&gt;happened, what will, what is perfect, what is right, where to go from &lt;br /&gt;here.  Often, you have to have hope to keep people together.  Have to &lt;br /&gt;make it somewhat simple, somewhat dulled, have to have something &lt;br /&gt;concrete, or at least seeming to be.  I am an idealistic realist &lt;br /&gt;still.  I think if a few will lead and know what the hell is going on &lt;br /&gt;then maybe as the rest is so intent on following, we will lead them &lt;br /&gt;to water and not blood.  Masses need a leader with a voice to clarify &lt;br /&gt;their own.  The standard of living and knowledge is increasing &lt;br /&gt;through out the centuries.  With the right guide, I believe we will &lt;br /&gt;advance to somewhere (where, who knows?).  The question is: are you a &lt;br /&gt;leader or a follower? I've never felt comfortable doing either, but I &lt;br /&gt;have found pushing people, suggesting is all you can really do. &lt;br /&gt;Trying to execute something only permeates its existence, they have a &lt;br /&gt;cause now, a common relationship.  If I change, if you do and we &lt;br /&gt;spread ourselves, give people an open door, maybe they will follow, &lt;br /&gt;maybe. &lt;br /&gt;So yes, I think the individual is more important, especially if you &lt;br /&gt;want to start something. Humanity as a whole does not have a &lt;br /&gt;conscience or consciousness.  Individual humans do.  So light a fuse &lt;br /&gt;with me, and we'll race into the darkness together. I always did like &lt;br /&gt;to know how bombs ticked. and really when you are removed, when you &lt;br /&gt;realize it is nothing but something, it's everything and nothing. It &lt;br /&gt;doesn't matter this way or that and really it's all just for &lt;br /&gt;interest, finding a spark, some beauty, I don't know.  I feel kind of &lt;br /&gt;free.  I could be anywhere in the world and I would be free.  I have &lt;br /&gt;this spot in me that nothing can touch but, yet it is empathetic and &lt;br /&gt;it feels.  It is indestructible but vulnerable.  The moon can fly &lt;br /&gt;right the fuck down on me and I'd smile, knowing this. &lt;br /&gt;Do you know this utter freedom.  Do you know this? At alam na natin kung alin ang mapagpasya.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;BY Gelacio Guillermo&lt;br /&gt;Posted by Bulatlat&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sa pandaigdigang kumperensya tungkol sa globalisasyon at terorismo na inisponsor ng National Council of Churches of the Philippines noong 2002, sinabi ng isang progresibong Amerikanong intelektwal na sa pamamagitan ng gera laban sa terorismo, tangka ng Estados Unidos na “ibahin ang paksa.”  Anya:  “Sa halip na mag-usap tungkol sa hustisyang panlipunan at pang-ekonomiko at kung paano itayo ang pandaigdigang pakikipagkapatiran sa mahihirap at dinudusta, ang mga gobyerno sa daigdig ay hinihila sa krusada laban sa masasamang gobyerno, yaong itinuturing ng White House na mga rehimeng hindi katanggap-tanggap.  Ang ibig sabihin nito, ang pakikibaka para sa hustisyang panlipunan ay kailangang maging pakikibaka rin laban sa pagpapatindi ng militarisasyon at paggamit ng dahas para ipataw ang isang bagong kaayusang pandaigdig na nasa kontrol at gabay ng Estados Unidos.” (William K. Tubb, “Globalisasyon: Pagkamkam sa Yaman at Kapangyarihan ng Mundo”)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sa ating bansa, ang “pag-iiba ng paksa” ay nangangahulugan hindi lamang ng pagtalikod kundi ng pursigidong pagdurog ng mga naghaharing uri sa mga pambansa at demokratikong kahilingan ng mamamayan.  Sa pamamagitan ng Medium-Term Development Program (MTDP) (1993) na inilatag ng noo’y Presidenteng Fidel Ramos, sinasagkaan ang panawagan para sa pambansang industrialisasyon at tunay na reporma sa lupa (“makitid na nasyunalismo” ang turing in Ramos sa panawagn) para ipa-lapa ang pambansang ekonomya sa imperyalistang globalisasyon.  At ikalawa, sa pag-apruba ng Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) at ACSA ng rehimeng Joseph Estrada noong 1999, ng Mutual Logistics Support Agreement (MLSA) noong 2002 at ng Anti-Terror Bill sa malapit na hinaharap bilang pagsunod ng rehimeng Arroyo sa doktrina ng Estados Unidos, mangangahulugan ng direktang panghihimasok ng mga Amerikanong militar at ng Coalition of the Willing sa gerang sibil o pambansang kilusang mapagpalaya sa ngalan ng imperyalistang gera laban sa terorismo.  Ibinabadya ito sa pagkakategorya kay Jose Ma. Sison at ng PKP/BHB bilang mga “foreign terrorist organization/individual” ng State Department, at sa paglilista ng mga militanteng organisasyong masa, party list at NGOs bilang kaaway ng estado sa video documentary, “Know your Enemy” (2004), na inihanda ng Armed Forces of the Philippines bilang gabay sa pagkilos ng mga pwersa nito laban sa naturang mga organisasyon at indibidwal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ang Paksang Pambansa-Demokratikong Bagong Tipo&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mahigit 40 taon na nang itakda ng rebolusyonaryong kilusan ang paksa o programa o adyenda para sa pundamental na pagbabago sa ating lipunang malakolonyal at malapyudal. Ang pagharap sa ganitong paksa ang ikinaiba nito sa mga kilusang rebisyonista at reaksyunaryo at sabihin pa’y sa lahat ng instrumento ng kapangyarihang pang-estado at ng naghaharing sistema.  Mula’t sapol at hanggang sa kasalukuyan, ang pagsusulong sa paksa ay hindi isang madaling gawain dulot ng maraming kadahilanan; sapat nang sabihing ang mga sagkang ito ay hindi lang mula sa labas ng kilusan kundi maging sa loob nito, tulad ng paglihis sa batayang linya at malalaking kamaliang nakapinsala sa takbo nito noong dekada otsenta ng nakaraang siglo. Gayunman, noong taong nakaraan (2004), buong kumpyansang ipinahayag ng pamunuan ang pag-iral ng “the other government” sa mismong tungki ng ilong ng kaaway.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ang kawastuhan at kahalagahan ng paksa ng rebolusyong pambansa-demokratiko at kasunod na rebolusyong sosyalista para sa mamamayan ay pinatutunayan araw-araw sa kanilang buhay at pakikibaka sa ilalim ng nangakaraang rehimen at kasalukuyang rehimeng US-Arroyo. Sukatan ang matatag, malalim at malawak na pag-unlad ng digmang bayan at hayag na kilusang masa sa lunsod at nayon ng kanilang paglahok at pagsuporta sa rebolusyong pulitikal.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Rebolusyong Pangkultura&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ang rebolusyong pulitikal ay praktika ng pag-agaw sa kapangyarihang pang-estado para pagsilbihin sa pagsusulong ng interes ng mamamayan sa lahat ng larangan ng paggugubyerno at buhay panlipunan. Kaagapay nito at may sariling kaangkinan ang  rebolusyong pangkultura.  Sa karanasan ng kilusang pambansa-demokratikong bagong tipo, inumpisahan ang rebolusyong pangkultura sa anyo ng kilusang propaganda bago pa man ilunsad ang rebolusyong pulitikal sa anyo ng matagalang digmang bayan, at nagpapatuloy at nakapakat sa kondukta ng digmang bayan at hayag na kilusang masa na kaipala’y hindi nawawala ang kaangkinan ng rebolusyong pangkultura bilang isang malawakang kilusan sa buong lipunan sa loob at labas ng organisadong pormasyon.  Totoong kumplikado ang rebolusyong pangkultura batay sa teorya at praktika nito sa dating Unyong Sobyet at dating sosyalistang Tsina, kung kaya marahil ipinanukala ni Sison sa kanyang artikulo, “Ang Ating Tindig tungkol sa Sosyalismo” (1992) na masinsing pag-aralan ang proyektong ito dito at sa ibang bansa. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Para sa layunin ng talakayang ito, sapat nang tiyakin ang katangian ng rebolusyong pangkultura sang-ayon sa praktika ng rebolusyonaryong kilusan, una, bilang instrumento sa paghahanda sa kalooban ng mamamayan para sa pagbabago at maging bahagi ng pakikibaka tungo sa pagbabagong ito. Ikalawa, sa mauunlad na lugar sa mga larangang gerilya, kung saan nakatatag na ang mga lokal na organo ng kapangyarihang pulitikal ng mamamayan, tungkulin ng rebolusyong pangkultura ang pag-aayon ng kalagayang suhetibo o ang paraan ng pagtingin sa realidad, at ng kalagayang obhetibo, o ang pagbabagong material sa kapaligiran. At ikatlo, sa isa namang mas malawak na pagtingin, ang rebolusyong pangkultura ay ang suhetibong proseso ng pagbaklas sa mga gawing burges at pyudal para tanggalan ng suportang kultural ang lumang kaayusan sa ekonomya at pulitika.  Halimbawa nito ang tinatawag ng mga makata ng KM 64 na “pagdurog sa pader ng kabulaanan” (Manipesto 2004)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Panulaang Progresibo, Rebolusyonaryo&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Nakapusisyon ang progresibo at rebolusyonaryong panulaan bilang partikular na aksyong pangkultura sa anumang antas ng pagpapahalaga sa rebolusyong pangkultura.  Taglay ng seksyong ito ng panulaang Pilipino ang paksa ng pambansang pagpapalaya at demokrasya mula pa noong dekada sisenta hanggang sa kasalukuyan sa harap ng mga pagbabago sa timbangan ng rebolusyon at kontrarebolusyon at sa pangkalahatang kalagayan sa pulitika, ekonomya at kultura ng lipunan. Tulad ng mga nauna, ang mga bagong makata ay mula sa hanay ng mga kadre, Pulang mandirigma, organisadong manggagawa at magbubukid, kabataang aktibista, at kaalyado mula sa panggitnang pwersa.Ang kanilang mga likha ay nalilimbag sa mga sentral na publikasyon ng kilusan at pahayagang masa sa rehiyon, sa mga tsapbuk, polyeto, website at blog at sa mga seksyong pangkultura ng mga alternatibong  ahensya sa pagbabalita. Malaganap ang paggamit ng Pilipino at mga wika sa rehiyon, samantalang mangilan-ngilan na lamang ang mga tulang nasusulat sa Ingles. Binabasa nila ang kanilang mga tula sa mga pagtitipon, halimbawa’y sa mga piketlayn, rali at iba pang pagtitipon.  Sa ilang hayag na babasahin, hindi na kakatwa ang pagsasama-sama ng mga tula mula sa mga sonang gerilya at kalunsuran, ng mga organisado at di organisado, at paminsan-minsa’y ng mga kabataan at matatandang makata. Ang porma ng mga tula’y maaaring sa malayang taludturan o may tugma’t sukat, may parikala o wala, humihiyaw o mapaglimi.  Ginagamit nila ang kolektibong pagsusulat tulad ng rengga (Indonesia) o ang kaparaanan ng pangkaraniwan nilang gawain, tulad ng pagtuturo ng alpabeto o political economy o ng pagtatala ng datos sa panlipunang pagsisiyasat.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sa mga makabayang makatang nakabase sa lunsod, katangi-tangi ang mabilis nilang pagtugon sa maiinit na usaping hinaharap ng mamamayan sa araw-araw. Katulong sa pagbubuo ng kanilang mga tula ang mga impormasyong nakakalap sa masmidya, sa mga organisasyong pulitikal, pagmamasid sa kapaligiran at sa kanilang sariling karanasan sa pagkilos. Dagdag na init sa damdamin at pagkilos ang kanilang mga tula sa malawakang mga kampanya sa mga unang taon ng siglong ito, tulad ng kampanya laban sa pambobomba at okupasyon sa Iraq ng mga pwersang militar ng Estados Unidos at ng Coalition of the Willing, kasama na ang Pilipinas; sa pamamaslang ng mga lider at kasapi ng mga militanteng organisasyon at unyon ng mga manggagawa at magbubukid (tulad ng sa Nestle at Hacienda Luisita), at mga peryodistang nagsisiwalat ng katotohanan; sa ilihitimong paghahari ni Gloria Arroyo; sa gang rape sa isang Pilipina ng mga sundalong Amerikano sa Subic, at sa VFA na muling nagbibigay-laya sa mga dayuhang sundalo na yurakan ang pambansang soberanya; sa imposisyon ng E-VAT, at iba pang mga problemang iniuugat sa pamumuno ni Arroyo.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tugong Taktikal ng Panulaan&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ang ganitong pagtugon ay maaaring tawaging TPR (Tactical Poetry Response o tugong taktikal ng panulaan) sapagkat umaayon sa layunin ng mobilisasyon ng mga pwersa sa aktwal na kampanya.  Ang panulaang ito ay nakaakma sa aksyong masa, diretso sa paksa at panawagan, palasak at malawak ang mga imahen, idea, damdamin at diwa.  Pangunahing halimbawa nito ang matatawag na mga tula ng lansangan sa lunsod at nayon, tulad ng “Kalatas sa Nag-uumulul na Tanda ng mga Panahon” ni Noel Sales Barcelona para sa kampanyang “Oust Gloria,” at ng “Mga Bukas na Liham sa Hacienda Luisita” ni Alexander Martin Remollino para sa kampanya ng mga manggagawa at magbubukid sa Hacienda Luisita.  May iba rin namang mga katangian ang ibang mga tula sa TPR, tulad ng pamamayani ng ironya sa mga tula in Rustum Casia (“Posterized,” “Luisita”) at Ronalyn Olea (“Hacienda Luisita”), o ng pagkonsentra sa isang detalye sa “Masaker” ni Usman Abdurajak Sali, o ng malawig na pagbubuo ng parikala sa “Mga Paru-paro sa Azucarera” ni Kristian Cordero.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Tugong Istratehiko ng Panulaan        &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ang isa pang tipo ng pagtugon ay maaaring tawaging SPR (Strategic Poetry Response o tugong istratehiko ng panulaan).  Ang mga tula sa kategoryang ito ay tumutugon sa pangangailangan ng malawakan at matagalang paghahanda at pagpapaunlad ng lahat ng pwersa para tiyakin ang kaligtasan at tagumpay ng kilusan.  May kagyat na mga okasyong nakapaloob sa malalaking proyekto tulad ng armadong pakikibaka, rebolusyong agraryo, paggugubyerno, o hayag na kilusang masa, o kaya’y mga okasyon sa pagdiriwang sa mahahalagang araw ng kilusan, o kaya’y sa pulong-masa, iskuling, kasalan, luksang-parangal, sesyon sa pagpuna-at-pamumuna-sa-sarili at iba pa. Nagbibigay-daan ang mga okasyong ito para makalikha ng mga tulang ang kahalagaha’y lumalampas sa pangangailangan ng partikular na okasyon at mangyaring may paulit-ulit na paggamit sa mahaba-habang panahon.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Alam natin ang nilalaman at porma ng ganitong panulaan mula pa sa umpisa: ito ang mga tula nina Andres Bonifacio, Jose Corazon de Jesus, Amado Hernandez, Jose Ma. Sison, Wilfredo Gacosta, Emmanuel Lacaba at iba pa, mga tulang hanggang ngayo’y nananatiling makahulugan para sa mga rebolusyonaryong pwersa at mamamayan. Ang ganitong mga tula ay nakatuon sa pagpapatatag at pagpapalawak ng mga pwersa para sa matagalang pakikibaka.  Sa kasalukuyang siglo, mababanggit ang mga bagong likha sa nayon at lunsod, tulad ng “Binabago ng Partido ang Lahat” ni Ka Dario, ang “Paglingkuran ang Sambayanan” ni Ka Joven o ang “Tres/Otso sa Ikatatlumpu” ni Mario Ruso.    &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ang iba namang tula ay nakabatay sa indibidwal na karanasan at pagmumuni-muni ng mga makata.  Karaniwa’y likha ng mga pwersa mula sa uring burgis at petiburgis: matalas ang pakiramdam sa kanilang bagong kapaligiran at karanasan, laging handang matuto at magbago at sa tuwina’y sinusukat ang sukdulan ng kanilang pagmamahal at paninindigan.  Nasa kategoryang ito ang mga tulang “Pag-aaral sa Oras,” “Ang Pakikipagkamay” at “Wika” ni Ting Remontado, ang “Tula’t Awit”  at “Pasalubong” ni Sonia Gerilya, ang “Datos ng Buhay” ni May Amor, at ang “To my first-born” ni Ka Pinay; at sa kalunsuran, ang simponya ng pamimighati at pananagumpay, ang “Kasama” ni Oliver Ortega.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Isinasama rito bilang eksibit ang teksto ng dalawang tula, ang “Walang Pag-aari” ni Sikhay Laya at “Datos ng Buhay” ni May Amor bilang halimbawa ng SPR. Kapwa sila tungkol sa pag-aaral/pagtuturo sa hanay ng mga manggagawa at magbubukid, mga tulang naglalarawan ng pedagodyi at pagsusuring panlipunan para sa edukasyon at pagkilos ng mga uring api para sa isang maaliwalas na kinabukasan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sa labas ng paradaym ng TPR at SPR ay umiiral ang dalawang uri ng panulaan.  Sa isang dulo ay ang misterium tremendum ng panulaang hermetiko, at sa kabilang dulo naman ay ang mga tulang sumasalipawpaw sa sub specie aeternitatis! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Patay na ang Panulaan?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Noong Agosto 24 ng taong nakaraan (2004), sa isang simposyum para sa Buwan ng Wika tungkol sa panulaang Filipino na itinaguyod ng UP Departamento ng Filipino at Panitikan ng Pilipinas at Oragon Poets Circle, sinabi ng panauhing tagapagsalitang Fidel Rillo na patay na ang kontemporaryong panulaan hindi lang sa Pilipinas kundi sa buong daigdig. Sinang-ayunan ito ni Virgilio Almario, at sinisi ang mga kritiko dahil hindi nila ginagampanan ang kanilang tungkulin bilang tagapamagitan sa makata at odyens.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Marahil, ang ganitong panggugulantang ay isa lang probokasyon dahil sila mismo’y sikat na mga makatang patuloy na naglalabas ng kanilang obra. Hindi naman siguro lingid sa kanila, halimbawa, na noong 2002, ilandaang makatang Amerikano ang nagsumite ng ilanlibong tula sa US Congress na nagpapahayag ng kanilang pagtutol sa pambobomba at okupasyon ng kanilang gobyerno sa Iraq.  Sa ating bayan, hindi rin kaila sa kanila ang ilandaang tulang nalikha, nalimbag at naitanghal bilang ambag sa mga kampanyang masa (na sa ilang pagkakataon kamakailan ay nilahukan nila). Noong 2002, 2003 at 2004, idinaos ang malalaking pagtatanghal tungkol sa buhay at panulaan nina Amado V. Hernandez at Jose Ma. Sison. Noong 2002, pinamunuan mismo ni Almario ang Asia-Pacific Conference-Workshop on Indigenous and Contemporary Poetry bilang pagkilala sa umiiral na panulaan sa rehiyon.   &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pero sa hindi sinasadya’y natukoy nila ang isang epekto ng rebolusyong pangkultura, na walang iba kundi ang unti-unting pagpawi ng mga gawi sa pag-iisip at pagkilos na humahadlang sa pagsusulong ng mga pagbabago sa lipunan. Tinangkang salungatin ni Almario ang ganitong pagsulong ng rebolusyong pangkultura noong 1982 (“Ang Makata sa Albanya: Isang Pagsusuri sa Tulang Makabansa”) at inulit noong 2000 (“Kapag Isinangkot ang Pagtula: Ang Panulaang Filipino tungo sa Bagong Milenyo”). Sa panulaang Pilipino, si Almario ang tagabandila ng “pag-iiba ng paksa.”  Hindi lang iyan: siya ang pangunahing tagatuligsa ng kasalukuyang panulaang bahagi ng tinatalikuran/pinagtataksilan niyang “mahabang tradisyon ng panlipunang pakikisangkot ng panulaang Filipino.”     &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ano ba ang halaga ng tula sa lipunan? Ipinaliwanag na ito nina Lenin, Mao Zedong at ng makatang Aprikanong Aime Cesaire, at nitong huli’y ng Latinong Amerikanong manunulat na Eduardo Galeano, na nagwika: “Ang sabihing mababago ang realidad sa pamamagitan lamang ng panitikan ay isang kabaliwan o paghahambog.  Sa palagay ko, isa ring kalokohan na itatwang nakakatulong ito sa pagbabago.”&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ang halaga ng tula ay sinusukat sa sugpungan ng rebolusyong pangkultura at sistemang malakolonyal at malapyudal, ng rebolusyong pangkultura at digmang bayan, ng rebolusyong pangkultura at sosyalistang konstruksyon; sa maikling salita, sa sugpungan at ugnayan ng kultura at pulitika. At alam na natin kung alin ang mapagpasya. Animo'y batik ng panandaliang pamamaalam ng haring tanglaw upang magbigay-daan sa pagdating ng karimlan, magpaubaya sa pagbuhos ng gabi ng kanyang kaanyuan. At sa pag-angkin ng dilim sa kanyang bahagi ng maghapon, ang mga ibong kanina'y nakikipaglaro sa saliw ng ihip ng masangsang na hangin, ngayo'y nakaupo sa kanilang mga pugad, sa piling ng mga inakay na sa loob lamang ng ilan pang sikulo ng buhay ay siya namang magpapalaot sa amihan. At ang mga tao ng maghapon, hangad ay ginhawang hatid ng kani-kanila ring mga pugad. Nasa'y maangkin ang himbing na handog ng katre't papag, pasailalim sa hipnotismo ng antok, pasakop sa kahiwagaan ng panaginip. Subalit hindi ako.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ang kapahingahan, kailanma'y di ko naging kaibigan. Kapayapaan ng isip ay malayo sa hinagap, kapanatagan ng kaluluwa'y di maabot na pangarap. At ang hangaring pagkalma ng balisang katawan, tila mananatiling isang mapait na hangaring magsisilbing sunong sa walang katapusang paglalakbay.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Manhid man ang mga binti ay patuloy akong lalakad. Pagod man ang mga paa ay walang tigil pa rin sa paglalakbay. Tuhod ay sugatan, talampaka'y pupog ng kalyo't paltos subalit bawat pagkatalisod ay sayaw sa ritmo ng sanlibutan at bawat patak ng dugong bumubukal sa aking galos ay siyang didilig sa lupang aking lalakaran.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ako ang batong kailanma'y di kakapitan ng lumot, butong walang pagnasang tubuan ng ugat. Paglakad ko'y walang kinikilalang oras at panahon, hindi namulat sa dikta ng pagkakataon. Pagka't ang paghakbang ko ang siyang pagkakataon, karugtong ng bawat kong hininga, katugon ng bawat kong galaw. Ito ay hindi pamamasyal sa parke, ni malayang paglilibot sa dalampasigan upang makadama ng banayad na hampas ng alon sa kalingkingan. Bagkus, ito ay pagsumpong sa tugon sa mga katanungang bumubugbog sa aking kunsensya at ngumangatngat sa aking dangal. Ito ay paglaya sa kasikipan ng daigdig na aking ginagalawan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sapagka't ako'y hindi isang mangingibig kundi manunupil, hindi isang paslit kundi isang ermitanyo na nag-aanyong paslit. Kailanma'y di ako naging banayad, tuwina'y pangahas na mananakop sa loob ng baluti ng kahinahunan, isang dakilang panginoon na walang pagkakakilanlan, salat sa anyo, hungkag sa mapanalaming katangian, dayuhan sa sarili kong mga mata.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Laganap na ang kadiliman at ang lahat ng buhay ay nahihimlay. Kaalinsabay ng pagtagaktak ng pawis sa aking noo at pagpintig ng aking pagal na binti ay lumukob ang isang mabigat na agam-agam sa gitna ngaking paglalakbay – Paano kung ang walang pahinga kong pagtahak at paghahanap sa kasagutan ay isa palang paglayo sa kasagutan ring yaon?
